Evaluation.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our film is a horror genre, we can tell this mainly through facial expressions, eye contact, music and the mood of the scenes as to dialogue. Although, screams and heavy breathing is involved in this genre alot.
In our opening sequence, we used heaving breathing from Ross as he is having a bad dream and carried that on over the titles, also we used soft but eary and creepy music over the backgroud to add effect to the mood and atmosphere. Also, we used shots of Georgia looking round frightened so show that something was happening that wasn't positive.
Horror films are mainly aimed at a larger target audience but some people choose not to because they are too scared; we captured our target audiences' attention by the heaving breathing. Young people or children are usually related to horror films as they connect to the spiritual side of things, so that's why we decided to used young people.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

It represents different social groups by the particular target audience that would be attracted to it. In horror films women are usually involved, as an audience we usually feel sympathy for a woman as to a man, also women tend to scream so that adds to the effect of being scared. However, we went against all stereotypical types in our opening scene by using mainly males. This is because we wanted to see how audiences would react to a male victim/character and to add effect to the film. Horror films usually involve children especially in the spiritual sense and seeing as ours is about haunting, we thought it would be suitable to use children.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

We chose 'Lionsgate' because horror films such as 'Saw 5' have been distributed by them too.
In horror films there are usually women involved as, as an audience we usually feel sympathy for a woman as to a man, also women tend to scream so that adds to the effect of being scared. However, we are going against all stereotypical types in our opening scene and using males. This was because we wanted to see how audiences would react to a male victim/main character and to add affect to the film.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our target audience is 15 years+ because it may have psychological issues that they may not understand. It applies to male and female as both genders watch horrors.
We wanted them to respond a bit scared and anxious to what happened but also intrigued into what is going to happen further on in the film, therefore want to watch more.

How did you attract/address your audience?

We attracted our audience by making the opening a bit jumpy and mysterious to make them want to watch more and find out what is going to happen. I think the music adds to it as it gives a creepy atmosphere and adds suspence in certain places.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

I have learn't that it is good to make sure everything is filmed exactly right before editing certain parts because we found ourselves re-shooting alot of times because things were too short or long. Another thing I realised was to have a back up plan just incase as some people you can not always rely on.

Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel I have learn't not to rush into ideas and make sure we have everything planned out before filming as we came across several things that resulted in us re-filming. Also, I would make sure I have reliable and dedicated people in our team because when people don't turn up to filming schedules and so on, it lets us down. I have learn't
